Matthijs Blomjous is a twenty year old artist, producer and multi-instrumentalist. He grew up, and still lives, in The Netherlands. As a young boy he was always busy writing stories, and he was obsessed with reading.
Coming from a musical family though, it was only a matter of time until Matthijs got involved with music. At the age of 10 he started to play the piano. After a few years of classical piano lessons he noticed that he liked composing original music more than playing piano music, because it allowed him to tell stories in a musical way. He started to compose and produce his own music, experimenting with different genres ranging from but always having the idea of telling a story through a song in the back of his mind. During this time he also started to sing and play bass guitar.
In 2017 Matthijs got accepted into the Dutch University of the Arts to study Music and Technology, focussing on composition and music production. During that time he also started mixing and engineering for friends and classmates. In late 2018, inspired by acts such as Twenty One Pilots, David Bowie and Radiohead, Matthijs decided to put his music under the name of Matthew Phoenix and he started to work on his first songs, his image and his identity as an artist and producer.
2019 will be a big year for Matthew Phoenix. He has planned to start releasing music under his name for the first time, with three releases on the horizon.
